General Questions
What is Grow a Garden?
Grow a Garden is a free-to-play farming simulation game on Roblox, released on March 26, 2025. Players plant seeds, grow crops, collect pets, discover mutations, and trade with other players. It became one of the most-played games on the platform thanks to its simple core loop and its offline growth mechanic — crops keep growing even when you are not logged in.
Is Grow a Garden free to play?
Yes! Grow a Garden is completely free to play on Roblox. You can purchase optional in-game items with Robux, but all core gameplay is free. Every major milestone in the game — top-tier seeds, sprinklers, pets, mutations — is reachable through normal play and smart Sheckle management.
What platforms can I play Grow a Garden on?
Grow a Garden is available on PC, Mac, mobile (iOS/Android), and Xbox through the Roblox platform. Because gardens grow while you are away, it suits short frequent sessions: check in, harvest, replant, check the shop, leave.
How do I play Grow a Garden? (New player basics)
The core loop: buy seeds at the seed shop, plant them in your garden, wait for them to grow, harvest, and sell for Sheckles. Reinvest earnings into better seeds, sprinklers, and pets. Our beginner guide walks through the first session step by step, and the how to play page covers every mechanic in detail.
Gameplay and Money Questions
How do I make money fast in Grow a Garden?
Fill every plot space with the best multi-harvest seeds you can afford, sell crops the moment they mature, and reinvest all earnings. Multi-harvest crops regrow after each harvest, so one seed pays out repeatedly. As capital grows, shift toward rare restock sniping and mutation farming — the full breakdown is in our money making guide.
How often does the seed shop restock?
The seed shop refreshes on a timer of roughly every 5 minutes. Each restock rolls a new selection, and rare plus Legendary seeds appear only occasionally — which is why players check the shop on a rhythm and keep a cash buffer so they never miss a window. Stock bought at shop price can be farmed or traded at a markup.
What are Sheckles?
Sheckles are the in-game currency of Grow a Garden. You earn them by selling harvested crops and earn more through mutations, pets, and trading. Almost every purchase — seeds, gear, eggs — is priced in Sheckles.
Can I earn money while offline?
Yes — this is one of the game's defining features. Crops keep growing while you are logged off. Before you leave, fill every plot with multi-harvest crops, keep sprinklers covering everything, and keep pets equipped. Each short login lets you harvest, sell, and start the next cycle. Frequent short visits earn more than rare long sessions.
What should I spend my first Sheckles on?
In order: a Basic Sprinkler (permanent growth speed for everything you will ever plant), your first multi-harvest seeds like Strawberry or Blueberry, and then a cheap pet egg. The full priority list is in the gear tier list purchase order section.
Codes Questions
Are there codes in Grow a Garden?
Yes! Grow a Garden has a code redemption system. Codes are usually released around updates and events, and they expire quickly. Check our codes page for everything currently active.
How do I redeem codes?
Open Settings in-game, scroll to the Codes section, enter the code, and press Enter. Codes must be typed exactly — they are case-sensitive — and expired codes return an error.
What do codes give?
Currently, codes primarily give cosmetic items. Some past codes gave seed packs and eggs. Even cosmetics are worth claiming because they hold trade value with collectors. Claim codes on every new account before starting the grind.
Pet Questions
How do I get pets in Grow a Garden?
You can get pets by purchasing and hatching eggs from the pet shop. Different egg types have different pet pools and rarity odds. Eggs occasionally go on event stock with exclusive pools — our pet eggs guide lists every egg and its pool.
What is the best pet in Grow a Garden?
There is no single best — it depends on your strategy. Growth-speed pets help farming, value pets raise every sale, and mutation pets improve your jackpot odds. Six decent equipped pets beat two great ones, since unequipped pets do nothing. Full rankings in the pets tier list.
Can I trade pets?
Yes! Trading is a core feature. You can trade pets, crops, and items with other players through the in-game trade window. Rare pets — especially event exclusives — are among the most valuable commodities in the game. Read the trading guide before your first big deal.
Do pets work while I am offline?
Equipped pets keep their bonuses active continuously, which pairs with the offline growth mechanic: your crops grow while you are away, and equipped growth-speed pets keep accelerating them. Unequipped pets in your inventory contribute nothing.
Mutation Questions
What are mutations in Grow a Garden?
Mutations are special traits that make crops worth more money. They occur randomly when crops grow — from weather events like rain and thunderstorms, or as random growth rolls. Mutated crops get a visual effect and a name tag, and their sell value is multiplied by the trait's multiplier.
How much is each mutation worth?
Community-reported multipliers: Wet roughly 2x, Dry roughly 2x, Frozen around 10x, Gold around 20x, Rainbow around 50x, and Shocked up to roughly 100x on a direct lightning strike. Multipliers stack multiplicatively — a Wet + Gold crop sells around 40x base value. The full comparison is in our mutation tier list.
How do I increase mutation chances?
You cannot force a specific roll, but you can maximize your number of draws: keep every plot full, plant high-base-value seeds, equip mutation-boosting pets, maintain full sprinkler coverage for faster growth cycles, and be online during weather events. Details in the mutation hunting guide.
What is the rarest mutation?
Rainbow and Gold are the rarest standard growth rolls, with Rainbow the most valuable at roughly 50x. Shocked is comparable in rarity but requires an active thunderstorm, since it only lands on lightning strikes. Both are trade commodities that often sell well above station price.
Can mutations stack on one crop?
Yes. Multipliers multiply together: Wet (~2x) + Gold (~20x) is roughly 40x, and stacking continues from there. Some combinations transform instead of stacking — a Wet crop hit by a cold event becomes Frozen. This is why experienced players never harvest during an active event: selling a Wet crop at 2x forfeits the stack. Every trait is detailed in the all mutations database.
Trading Questions
Is trading safe in Grow a Garden?
Trading through the in-game trade window is safe — both players see the offer and confirm. Trading outside the window (dropping items first) is how scams happen. Never accept a "trust trade," never go first on a promise, and treat any offer pressure as a red flag.
What are my crops and pets worth?
Rare pets and mutated crops have no fixed shop value — the market is community-agreed. Check our seeds tier list, pets tier list, and trading guide for current valuation baselines, and cross-check big deals in community Discord price channels.
What is a trust trade and why do people warn about it?
A "trust trade" is a scam where someone asks you to give items first in exchange for a promised later reward that never comes. There is no enforcement of outside-window promises. The rule is absolute: only the in-game trade window, every time.
Progression Questions
What is the best seed in Grow a Garden?
For raw value, top-tier multi-harvest crops like Beanstalk and event exclusives lead. For value-per-Sheckle at each budget, the answer changes — see the seeds tier list and the best seeds guide for per-budget picks.
Do crops keep growing when I log off?
Yes. Grow a Garden grows your crops offline, which is central to its design. Log in to harvest, sell, replant, and check the restock timer — short frequent sessions maximize income per hour played.
How do sprinklers work?
Sprinklers water an area around where you place them, speeding up growth for every crop in range. Coverage and placement matter: a centered sprinkler beats a corner one, and multiple units overlap. The upgrade path runs Basic → Advanced → Premium, detailed in the gear tier list.
What are events in Grow a Garden?
Events are limited-time periods — seasonal, holiday, or update-based — that add exclusive seeds, pets, cosmetics, and sometimes special weather. Event stock often appreciates after the event ends, making it both content and investment. Our event guide tracks what is currently live.
