Grow a Garden Mutation Tier List — Most Valuable Mutations

Rainbow is the most valuable mutation in Grow a Garden at roughly 50x base value, followed by Gold at around 20x and Shocked at about 100x when a thunderstorm strike lands during a stacked event. At the other end, Wet and Dry are the weakest multipliers individually — roughly 2x each — but they are the stacking foundation that turns ordinary crops into jackpot rolls.

This list ranks every known mutation by real earning power, not just the multiplier on the label. Two factors matter equally: how big the multiplier is, and how often you can actually get it. A 50x roll you see once a month earns less over time than a 2x roll you farm every rain session. Multipliers below are community-reported ranges — the game does not publish exact numbers, and values shift slightly with updates. For the mechanics behind each trait, see the all mutations database and our mutation hunting guide.

How Mutations Work

Every planted, growing crop can pick up traits from the environment: weather events, special events, or random growth rolls. The rules that matter for the tier list:

  • Multipliers multiply together. A Wet (2x) + Gold (20x) crop sells at roughly 40x base value. This compounding is why low-tier mutations still matter.
  • Some combinations transform. The classic example: a Wet crop hit by a cold event becomes Frozen — an upgrade, not a stack.
  • Higher base value crops benefit most. A 50x multiplier on a cheap seed is a rounding error; on a top-tier perennial it is a fortune. Match mutation hunting with the seeds tier list.
  • You cannot force specific rolls, only prepare for them. Full gardens during weather events, mutation-boosting pets equipped, and patience are the entire strategy.

S Tier (Best)

The jackpot traits. Rare, enormous multipliers, and the currency of high-end trading.

MutationMultiplierWhy It Is S TierHow to Get It
RainbowRoughly 50x base valueThe rarest standard mutation and the single biggest legal multiplier in the game. A Rainbow roll on any serious crop instantly makes it a trade commodity. Every endgame farmer is one Rainbow away from a fortune.Random growth rolls, heavily weighted toward higher-rarity crops; no weather dependency
ShockedRoughly 100x on a direct strike (community-reported range varies)The highest ceiling in the game. Lightning strikes during thunderstorms are rare and random, which keeps the multiplier astronomical. A Shocked hit on a high-base crop is the biggest payday farming alone can produce.Thunderstorm events — lightning strikes random crops in your garden

Rainbow and Shocked share one property: they are lottery tickets with better odds than a lottery. You cannot grind them directly, but you can dramatically increase your number of draws by keeping a full garden of high-value multi-harvest crops at all times. Over hundreds of harvest cycles, every endgame player lands some. When you do, remember that mutated crops often trade well above station price — check the trading guide before selling.

A Tier (Excellent)

The reliable heavy hitters. Big multipliers on attainable sources.

MutationMultiplierWhy It Is A TierHow to Get It
GoldRoughly 20x base valueThe best realistic target for daily play. Gold rolls appear regularly on multi-harvest fields, need no special weather, and turn an ordinary harvest session into a payday. This is the mutation that funds most endgame accounts.Random growth rolls on any crop; slightly better odds reported on rarer seeds
FrozenRoughly 10x base valueThe strongest weather-linked mutation you can plan around. Frozen requires the Wet + cold combination, but cold events are predictable enough to farm deliberately — wet your garden, wait for frost, collect 10x crops.Wet crops hit by a cold/frost event; the combination transforms into Frozen

Gold is the best value-per-hour mutation in the game even though Rainbow and Shocked have higher ceilings, because its frequency is in a completely different class. Frozen ranks just below on plan-ability: it is the only A-tier trait with a reliable setup routine (Wet first, cold second). Both are cornerstones of the strategies in our money making guide.

B Tier (Good)

Solid multipliers with real limitations — frequency, setup cost, or event dependency.

MutationMultiplierWhy It Is B TierHow to Get It
WetRoughly 2x base valueThe most common mutation in the game. Individually weak, but rain is frequent, it applies to your whole garden at once, and it stacks with everything. Wet + Gold is roughly 40x. Wet is also the gateway to Frozen.Rain events — random rolls on all planted crops while rain lasts
DryRoughly 2x base valueWet's heat-event sibling. Same multiplier class, different event window. Having a Dry-capable garden means heat events pay you exactly like rain does — free value on a schedule nobody controls.Heat-type weather events
ChilledSmall multiplier, but upgrades to FrozenAs a standalone trait Chilled is mild, which keeps it out of A tier. Its transformation role — the required step to Frozen — makes it far more valuable than its own multiplier suggests.Cold-weather events on planted crops

B tier is where most of your actual income volume comes from. S and A tier traits are the headlines; Wet and Dry are the paycheck that arrives every single session. The correct attitude is opportunistic: never sell during the event, let rolls stack, and harvest when the window closes. Plant high-base crops before events so every roll lands on something worth multiplying — the best seeds guide covers which crops qualify.

C Tier (Average)

Minor traits that add a little value on top of better stacks.

MutationMultiplierWhy It Is C TierHow to Get It
Event-themed minor mutationsSmall multipliers (roughly 1.5x–3x class, varies by event)Rotating events add temporary traits with modest boosts. They are free value when active — never a reason to buy anything, always worth having on crops you were growing anyway.Live limited-time events; check our event guide
Wind-type and similar ambient traitsLow single-digit multiplier rangeOccasional ambient weather traits with small boosts. Strictly a bonus layer — nice on top of Gold, never the reason a crop is valuable.Ambient weather rolls

C-tier mutations are pure upside with zero strategy required: they arrive on their own and add a few percent to your sales. The only mistake is building a session around them. If your garden plan depends on a C-tier trait, the plan is wrong.

D Tier (Below Average)

Cosmetic-level or situationally worthless traits.

MutationMultiplierWhy It Is D TierHow to Get It
Purely visual growth variantsNear or exactly 1xSome growth quirks change appearance without meaningful value. Fun to collect, irrelevant to income, and occasionally mistaken for valuable mutations by new players.Random cosmetic rolls
Stacking-lock anomalies (traits that block better rolls)VariesCommunity reports occasionally flag traits that seem to reduce further roll quality on the same crop. Evidence is thin, but until proven otherwise, plan around the proven stackers instead.Event or update-specific

D tier exists mostly as a warning label: before you pay a trader a premium for an exotic-sounding trait, check the multiplier against this list. Half the "secret mutations" sold in trade lobbies are cosmetic variants or B-tier traits at 10x their real value. The pets tier list has the same warning for animals.

Stacking Math: Where the Real Money Is

The reason a tier list of multipliers understates low tiers: stacking. Community-reported math looks like this on a crop with 10,000 Sheckle base value:

CombinationApproximate Total MultiplierSale Value
Wet only~2x~20,000
Frozen only~10x~100,000
Gold only~20x~200,000
Wet + Gold~40x~400,000
Wet + Frozen (post-transformation stacking)~20x+~200,000+
Gold + Shocked~2,000x classMillions
Wet + Gold + Shocked~4,000x classThe screenshots that go viral

Exact numbers vary by crop and update, and the game multiplies in its own order — but the direction is unmistakable: every stack on top of Gold or Shocked scales the payout into life-changing territory. This is why the universal advice is never harvest during a weather event. A Wet crop pulled at 2x is pocket change; the same crop held through a storm and a cold snap is a lottery draw.

Mutation Hunting: The Practical Meta

  1. Keep every plot full, always. Empty plots are zero draws. Full plots of high-value multi-harvest crops are continuous rolls.
  2. Plant high-base crops before event windows. A multiplier on a cheap seed is nothing; on top-tier perennials it compounds. Cross-reference the all seeds database.
  3. Equip mutation-boosting pets. Several pets raise roll odds continuously; see the pet collection guide and hatch strategy in the pet eggs guide.
  4. Maximize sprinkler coverage. Faster growth means more harvest cycles means more mutation draws per hour — gear feeds mutations. See the gear tier list.
  5. Play through weather, not around it. Rain, storms, and cold snaps are scheduled income if you are online. Even a 15-minute login during an event beats an hour of idle farming.
  6. Scan name tags before bulk selling. The Wet visual is subtle; players routinely sell 40x stacks at 1x because they grabbed everything at the station. Always check.
